Middle Ear Infection (Otitis Media) may be caused due to obstruction of the inner ear canal (Eustachian tube) which connects between the ear and the nasopharynx.
During a cold, this obstruction causes an accumulation of fluids, which acts as a bacterial growth platform resulting with infection.
The inflammation is more common in infants and children since their ear canals are thinner and easily obstructed.
